The Program PRESENCE/ABSENCE by Janusz Baldyga
August 28 – August 30, 10:00-14:00, a lecture hall of the Lviv Museum of Religious History (Muzeina Square, 1) The Program PRESENCE/ABSENCE by Janusz Baldyga in frame of the School of Performance 2017
The postulate of the presence of the artist, which until recently was a mandatory feature of performance art, begins to be questioned as one of the basic conditions of the art of action.
The question of the possibility of participation in the ephemeral work by the absence of the author is actual. History says to resort to the function of a double, representative of kings, leaders or dictators in many situations.
Our language knows the concept of GREAT ABSENCE, a hero that exists outside of the event over which he dominates.
During the workshop we will turn to different models of presence and absence, giving place to traditional forms based on central dominance through a constant emphasis on their own presence or just a mark of presence on the opposite pole.
We will build a sign of presence/absence based on the order of our own body.
The workshop will last on August 28, 29, and 30, daily from 10:00 to 14:00, the final show will be held on the last day of the Festival. This show will combine individual students’ presentations and will become one event.
